Chilly, Windy Saturday

Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous. Eighty-five degrees outside with a slight breeze from the north—these conditions allowed me to get a spectacular stomp home. Today, it was forecast to be slightly cooler outside. I had a feeling when I went out to the bank this morning that that would be a big understatement. It was overcast and very chilly compared with yesterday.

With significant winds and a twenty-five degree drop in the temperature, I jumped on my bike about two and headed out for a modified version of my usual Portola Valley, Woodside, Foothill ramble. The construction on my previously noted stretch of road was on again in full swing, so I diverted again up Page Mill and through Arastradero Open Space, climbed through Portola Valley and Woodside, and zipped down Foothill (after my detour). My chart incremented from last week (chart week 12) required 52.28 miles.

The heavy winds exacted a significant toll on my average speed and I ended my third 200+ mile week of the year a little slower than I’d have liked. Still, it was a decent enough ride, despite my slowness, and I really earned the Clif Bar at the end.

Today:   53.97 mi;  2:55:47 (18.4 mph avg; 38.0 mph max) March:  384.24 mi; 20:45:18 (18.5 mph avg; 39.0 mph max)
2005 : 1438.90 mi; 77:45:48 (18.5 mph avg; 43.0 mph max)
Goal : 5000.00 mi (3561.10 mi to go : 28.78% complete)
