UNEAQ
Last Friday, I went to the UNEAQ party in San Francisco. Since the members of band are friends of mine, I headed south for their shindig in San José at The Bamboo Lounge.
After today’s fifty mile bike ride, I wasn’t really much in a mood to dance (primarily because I was pretty sore), but I am always in the mood to hear some good live house music. Jaime Gonzalez worked the turntables before I showed up, coaxing a few hotel guests onto the dancefloor. MJ Gamez took over, playing a bumping set of house grooves. Then, UNEAQ came on.
It’s always a pleasure to hear them play. Despite having heard all of UNEAQ’s songs, including the newest of the new ones, more times than I can count, I never get tired of hearing Jessica’s beautiful voice belt out the jazzy, soulful melodies that defines the band’s style. Joshua played along on guitar, meandering through rock-influenced, funk-laden licks that kept my foot tapping all night. And when Andrew hauled out that growly bass guitar… Yeah, it was a great show. The audience was a little sparse, but the crowd that assembled were all friends and had come out to help UNEAQ go to Miami.
Right after their set, I gave my respect to the musicians, slugged down the last of the Dr. Pepper in my car, and stayed awake just long enough to make it home. I’m definitely going to their show in San José next Saturday. You should, too.
